After swearing in as new Culture Minister, Salvador del Solar said his administration will focus of the country’s culture promotion in light of the upcoming bicentennial of independence in 2021.

“In a few years, we will have the opportunity to think about our country and the culture role in it,” he said.

“We need years to reflect on what is wrong and valuable,” del Solar added.

As a country, Peru is distinguished by its thousand-year-old cultural tradition, he said. “We have to spread it across the continent and beyond.”

The high-ranking official affirmed Peru is one of the few countries “that feels proud of its culture and where contemporary culture continues to flow.”

Peruvian culture is not only represented by thousand-year-old expressions or current cultural industries —he pointed out— but depicts the way Peruvians relate to each other on the street, in the political arena and between State branches.
