More Peruvian citizens from various regions will gain access to water and sanitation services this 2017, Peru's Housing, Construction and Sanitation Ministry projected.

Providing access to those basic services nationwide is among President Kuczynski administration's priorities.

"We must be capable of providing water and sanitation services to some 800,000 Peruvians by the end of this year. In this sense, we are identifying projects and works," Minister Edmer Trujillo underlined.

Furthermore, the official highlighted the Investment Management System (Invierte.pe) mechanism that will help boost investments in the portfolio.

As is known, the government expects to gradually unblock public investment projects through Invierte.pe, which has already started a follow up on halted ventures.

The minister also emphasized the implementation of mechanisms such as Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and Works for Taxes.

"All of them help facilitate not only investments in general, but also water and sanitation [services]," he said.

The cabinet member pointed out the water and sanitation infrastructure project portfolio reaches S/4.20 billion (around US$1.28 billion).

"We are about to pass the 2017-2021 Water Supply and Sanitation National Plan. There, we have an important amount of resources destined for this purpose […]," he added.
