Production in Mining and Hydrocarbons industry increased by 9.46% in October compared to the same month last year, recording the fourth–highest rate so far this year and experiencing eight months of steady growth, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed.

INEI’s head Anibal Sanchez said this behavior was driven by higher mining of copper (34.85%), zinc (10.33%), silver (16.73%), molybdenum (17.01%) and lead (10.63%).

“Data show a trend to significant growth,” Sanchez stated.

“Mining has expanded over eight months in a row and, according to figures, this growth is expected to continue,” he affirmed.

However, he said, there was a decline in the output of iron (-25.19%) and tin (-6.01%).

Lower production of crude oil (-20.99%) and natural gas liquids (-10.95%) had an impact on the negative development of the hydrocarbon sub-sector, while natural gas production went up by 2.04%.

On the other hand, October’s farming production increased by 3.76% and experienced six months of steady expansion.

“This rise is driven by the improved performance in the livestock (5.97%) and agricultural (1.94%) sub-sectors,” he pointed out.
