Peru’s Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) and Mexico’s Social Development Secretariat (Sedesol) signed an agreement to undertake joint technical cooperation activities on poverty eradication and development with social inclusion of the most vulnerable populations in the two nations.
The deal was inked during the participation of Midis’ head Paola Bustamante in the 36th Session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) held in Mexico City.
Cooperation activities will be carried out via an exchange of experiences, knowledge and best practices in fields of social development, technical assistance for design and implementation of social programs, workshops and videoconferences.
The two countries agreed to implement social development programs and strategies, hunger relief programs to improve child nutrition and early child development, and food safety actions oriented to reduce chronic malnutrition in children.
The agreement also promotes comprehensive social protection systems, in particular actions aimed at children and teenagers, strengthening of seniors’ rights and comprehensive social protection (economic security, health services, recognition of seniors).
As for the funding, each party will assume the cooperation expenditure with resources of their corresponding budgets.
The agreement took effect as soon as it was signed, and will be valid for four years and renewable for a further four years upon mutual agreement between both parties.
