Thousands of Pichanaki residents will participate today in a peace march aimed at promoting the end of violent acts, which occurred weeks ago.

Representatives of the civil sector will also join.

According to lawyer Marisela Nolasco, one of the march’s main sponsors, the goal is to prove Pichanaki is a "peaceful district" composed of hardworking people.

Regarding differences linked oil explorations, she said "dialogue must prevail" "above any violent measures," which could originate "unfortunate consequences."

"We have to resume dialogue. Although we have fought for the environment, it doesn't mean we are extremists. We are a community that cares for its development," she added.

Concerning Roberto Chavarria, one of the violent protests' radical leaders, who has refused to meet with government officials, Nolasco considered his attitude as “tiny.”

She mentioned the peace protest will kick off at Pichanaki's Square at 4.00 P.M (local time).

It is estimated to gather around 5,000 people. Local houses will raise flags, as a sign of support.

The march intends to disperse the violent acts that occurred weeks ago due to violent protests against Argentinian company Pluspetrol. It led to one person dead, while several others were wounded.

Pluspetrol would be later requested to withdraw from the area, at which it was carrying out works for exploration.

The request was made by the former Minister of Energy and Mines, Eleodoro Mayorga.
