Peru: Lima's 2019 Pan American Games organizing committee established

The Organizing Committee of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games (COPAL) was established on Wednesday night at a ceremony held at the Lima’s National Stadium.

It will be in charge of elaborating and approving the plan, which will enable to organize this important event.

It is presided over by Luis Salazar Steiger, in representation of the Ministry of Education. Salazar is also the President of the National Society of Industries and member of the board of the Peruvian Olympic Committee.

Others are: the representative of the Ministry of Education, Jaime Crosby Robinson; Arturo Woodman and Alfredo Deza represent Lima's Metropolitan Municipality; Jose Quiñones and Maggie Martinelli, representing the Peruvian Olympic Committee and Desilu Leon, a member of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD).

COPAL-Peru's functions include elaborating and approving the Plan of the 2019 Pan American Games.

This Plan will include the proposal for the required sports infrastructure and for urban infrastructure improvements in Lima and Callao.

In addition, COPAL, jointly with entities of the Executive Power and different levels of the Peruvian government, manages and coordinates the actions required for hosting the XVIII Pan American Games.

The special project’s objective is to program and carry out the required actions for the development of the XVIII Pan American Games.
It will focus mainly on projects of public investment in sports infrastructure.

The Special Project has technical, economic, financial and administrative autonomy, and is attached to the Ministry of Education.

The Special Project is valid for the 120 subsequent days after the completion of the 2019 Pan American Games.
