Peru should rank as one of the world's food capitals along with Italy and France, said Craig S. Smith, President of the Caribbean and Latin America at Marriott International.
"I have to say that after living here for two years, I find that Peruvian cuisine is phenomenal! Countries like Italy and France are known as the world's culinary capitals, where people go to study culinary arts and I think Peru has to be among those countries" he said.

In an interview with El Peruano, Smith stressed the cultural wealth and historical roots of Peru and he was impressed by "the incredible growth of Lima."

"There are many international brands that have invested in the country. This shows foreigners how rich and important this part of the world is," Smith noted.

He added that it is not necessary to advertise the country among his friends as Peru does a great job promoting itself in other countries, and the fact that Machu Picchu was named as one of the Seven Wonders of the World has helped put the country on the world map.

According to Smith, Peru is a very dynamic country and has a great potential to grow, not only with luxury brands, but also "with our four-star brands like Courtyard by Marriott and Fairfirled Inn and Suites".
