State-run Sierra y Selva Exportadora (Exporting Andes and Jungle) program will promote the best Peruvian beans through "Cafetea Peru" campaign at the coming National Coffee Festival 2017.

The festival will be held on August 24-27 at Pichanaki district's (Chanchamayo province) main square, located in central-highland Junin region.

Launching Cafetea Peru during a Congress press conference, legislator Federico Pariona said the activity aims to market Junin's coffee while increasing per-capita coffee consumption.

In this context, Sierra y Selva Exportadora has organized training sessions for small-scale producers —across 10 Peruvian regions— concerning good agricultural practices, proper harvesting and excellent roasting.

"Today, the global market demands roasted coffee, roasted in their places of origin, micro-lot coffee from small crops, and Peruvian coffee meets these requirements," Sierra y Selva Exportadora head Alfonso Velasquez said.

Pichanaki Mayor Zosimo Cardenas underlined one of his town's local brands was recognized during the 3rd International Contest of Coffees Roasted in their Countries of Origin AVPA – Paris 2017 awards.

This —and other internationally-traded brands— will be available for tastings at this year’s National Coffee Festival.

The event will also feature coffee quality control workshops, business rounds and a coffee roasting competition.
