Peru's Lambayeque Northern region has managed to increase its fresh fruits exports by 34.64%.

Such exports were valued at US$99,452,462 million in 2015, a higher figure compared to that registered the year before (over US$73 million).

According to Lambayeque's Regional Exporters Association (AREX), this growth was mainly given due to greater shipments of grapes and Hass avocados which amounted to US$51,116,614 and US$35,712,101, respectively.

Grapes and avocados

Grapes and avocados are considered top-products, AREX Manager Paola Corvacho Valderrama indicated.

The progress experienced over recent years was possible thanks to the incorporation of new production areas and implementation of the latest technologies.

The Netherlands is the main destination for national grapes leading to revenue worth US$15.7 million, followed by the US (US$7 million) and Russia (US$4.8 million).

With regard to avocados, Netherlands also leads the ranking (US$12.7 million) followed once again by the US (US$9.9 million) and Spain (US$5.4 million).

It must be noted US remains as the main target market for Peruvian fruits and vegetables, AREX informed.
