Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski decided to deploy a Fokker 60 maritime patrol aircraft to support ongoing search for the missing Argentinean submarine A.R.A. San Juan.

Via Twitter, the statesman addressed his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri, noting Peru stands by his country at this difficult moment.

"Our hearts go out to the families and people of Argentina," reads his post.

Peruvian Navy's officials and technical staff will head to the neighboring nation to ramp up search and rescue efforts in the area, Defense Ministry informed.

According to AFP, the Argentine submarine has been lost in the South Atlantic for five days now with 44 people aboard.

Argentina's navy revealed Monday that the submarine reported a mechanical breakdown in its final communication, and that weekend signals did not come from the vessel, dimming hopes for its crew members.
