The extradition process against former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo has already begun and actions —to go through with the measure— are underway, Interior Minister Carlos Basombrio affirmed on Thursday.
In this sense, information received by the government points to the United States as Toledo's whereabouts, the official noted.
As is known, the former head of State faces an arrest warrant at national and international levels on influence peddling and asset laundering charges, within the framework of the Odebrecht case. He is accused of having received US$20 million in bribes.
"The extradition process has already started […] and we remain hopeful that President [Pedro Pablo] Kuczynski's deportation request is realized," he told reporters.
In this respect, Basombrio said the government's main purpose is to contribute to the apprehending of people wanted by justice.
This task is carried out "tirelessly."
"Thus, he [Toledo] has been included in the reward system along with the other 1,200 individuals with arrest warrants," he concluded.
