Peru improves artisanal fishermen’s working conditions

Ministro Giuffra junto a pescadores artesanales de Paracas.

09:59 | Lima, Dec. 5.

Peru's Production Minister Bruno Giuffra announced the State is working towards improving working conditions for artisanal fishermen across the country, so that they can enjoy a healthy environment and high-quality standards for the extraction of marine resources.

Said commitment was ratified during the meeting he held with four artisanal fishermen associations in Paracas, where he collected requests to improve working conditions along this coastal region.

The meeting discussed the draft of a project to upgrade the artisanal fishing quay at Laguna Grande Cove, where damaged infrastructure puts fishermen’s integrity and productivity at risk.

The gathering also addressed the expansion of an ice plant needed to ensure an adequate extraction process and high-quality final product.

According to Giuffra, improvements are expected not only in infrastructure but also in capacities. This aim will be achieved through specialized technical assistance and training programs.

The gathering saw the participation of several fishermen associations’ representatives.
