Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso and his Honduran counterpart Juan Orlando Hernandez met Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York and expressed their willingness to conclude negotiations on a free trade agreement soon.
In August this year, high- level delegations of the two countries met in the Peruvian capital in order to resume stalled FTA negotiations and define the route to be followed for the completion of the negotiating process.
Pending issues to reach such an agreement include tariff elimination, exchange of services and public procurement.
A FTA with Honduras will be a positive tool to promote bilateral trade as well as to benefit small and medium enterprises (SMEs), whose major destination markets are Latin American countries.
Likewise, during the meeting, the Peruvian leader acknowledged the Honduran government for having received the 43 beneficiaries of Beca 18 scholarship program in the Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School, one of the best universities in its field in the Central American country.
It is worth noting that these young students, who come from low income families, have achieved the highest grades in maths at the Zamorano school.
