Heavy rains, which started on Sunday at 2:00 PM, led to landslides in Huarochiri province's Santa Eulalia town located 50.7 kilometers northeast of Lima Metropolitan Area.
Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski requested citizens to "remain patient" adding relief teams would arrive in the zone.
Transport and Communications Minister Martin Vizcarra assured the government deploys heavy equipment and aid to the area.
"We are making the corresponding assessment on the problem hitting Santa Eulalia and other parts of the country, given the presence of rains. Along with the regional government and municipalities, we have also started to deploy equipment and personnel, in order to assist affected areas and people," he told RPP TV and radio news station.
The official went on to add the decision was made after learning about the status of rains in the said zone.
"We are working jointly with different sectors and crafting an emergency plan. We are developing a multisectoral work…," Vizcarra underlined.
The National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) confirmed firefighter units had moved to Santa Eulalia. Likewise, law enforcement agents arrived in the area to respond to emergency situations and assist Peruvians in need.
