Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday afternoon set up the Presidential Integrity Commission.

Such committee will serve to promote integrity and respect for ethical principles in public offices, and thus encourage transparency, as well as prevent and punish corruption.

Led by former Ombudsman Eduardo Vega, the commission will be in force for 45 days. It will be composed of citizens with renowned ethical careers, prestige and legitimacy in society.

Members are people identified with democracy and institutionalism defense. Plus, they do not represent interests of any political party or business sector.

At the event, Mr. Kuczynski noted the need for corrupt people to be punished.

Corruption in the State and private sectors —that provide resources for unlawful acts— should be punished equally, the high-ranking official affirmed.

"There must not only be civil death for the public servant, but also civil death for the one, who brought the money and tried to jump any hurdle," he expressed.

The commission aims at implementing concrete measures to promote integrity and respect for ethical principles among State officials.

Corresponding ceremony kicked off at Lima's Government Palace.
