S/21.4 million (about US$6.26 million) was allocated to small producers from Apurimac, Huanuco, Junin, La Libertad and Tacna regions as well as Lima’s provinces in 2015, government-run Sierra Exportadora program reported.

Such non-reimbursable funds were granted through State-run Procompite program by establishing business plans for small-producer associations.

It must be noted Procompite aims to support productive competitiveness through adaptation or technological transfer mechanisms for the benefit of high-potential business initiatives developed across regions.

"This support [...] has enabled the country to optimize aspects related to production, post production, transformation, commercialization and exports," the entity highlighted.

Thanks to international recognitions such as Good Agricultural Practices, Fair Trade, Organic Certification, among others, the small-sized industries were able to meet this objective.

Highly supported chains were those related to ovine (livestock); passion fruit, cheese, cacao, coffee, quinoa, avocado (agriculture) and textile sectors.

Most favored regions

Competitive funds worth S/18.1 million (about US$5.29 million) were allocated to producers from Huanuco, Junin regions and Lima provinces, which accounted for 92.3% of the total amount.

Last year, Sierra Exportadora managed to articulate invesment valued at S/31.6 million (about US$9.24 million) and aimed at reinforcing Andean production chains in Peru.
