The Peruvian government plans to allocate more than 500 million soles (about US$176 million) for the construction of 35,000 homes across the nation, Milton von Hesse, Minister of Homes, Construction and Sanitation announced on Tuesday.

According to the high-level government official, the Ollanta Humala administration has already built nearly 100,000 homes, surpassing the number of houses built on previous governments’ initiatives.

"Getting a house is a dream come true for more than 100,000 families, and it was thanks to decisive action taken by the Peruvian President and his support for housing programs such as Techo Propio - and MiVivienda Fund," Von Hesse noted.

Likewise, he pointed out the country's housing and construction sector will be one of the driving forces boosting the Andean nation's economic growth.

It is worth mentioning that the construction sector grew 8.56% in 2013. The industry’s strong growth was due to expanding demand for new homes, shopping centers, and other infrastructure projects.
