Poverty reduction in Peru, as confirmed by ECLAC, is the reflection of the “emphasis” placed by the current Presidential mandate, affirmed today Ariela Luna, Deputy Minister of Social Assessment Policies of the Development and Social Inclusion Ministry (Midis).

The statement was released after the report issued by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) was known.

Peru ranks fourth among countries with considerable poverty decreases.

According to the study titled “Social Panorama of Latin America 2014”, issued by ECLAC, poverty in Peru was reduced from 25.8% - 23.9% in a period set between 2011 - 2013. Extreme poverty was decreased from 6% - 4.7% during that time.

“We are going to redouble efforts in order to continue to reduce it in the country,” she told.

An articulated work by the central government and governorships is being conducted, the deputy minister explained.

The works by government intends to implement several interventions based on the Development and Social Inclusion National Strategy, she added.

The list is headed by Paraguay, El Salvador and Colombia.
