Peru’s Foreign Ministry announced the Humala administration has sent back its top envoy to Tel Aviv after he was recalled five weeks ago as a protest against Israel's military operation in Gaza.

According to Foreign Minister Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Peru recalled its ambassador in consultation in accordance to the country’s principled position to reject violence in the Gaza strip.

He went on to note that Peru rejects and condemns violence of Palestinian radicals who fire missiles at Israeli civilians.

Nevertheless, he also argued that the Andean nation rejects Israel's disproportionate military operations in Gaza with the same intensity, since more than 2,000 people died, mostly civilians, women and children.

“Ambassador Jose Luis Salinas is already in Israel,” Gutierrez told a political TV program on Canal N.

According to media reports, Chilean ambassador has also returned to Israel, and Brazil has announced it is ready to normalize diplomatic ties with the Middle-East country by allowing its envoy to return to Tel Aviv.

On July 29, Peruvian Foreign Ministry published a statement condemning Israel’s operation in Gaza announcing its government was going to recall its ambassador in Tel Aviv in consultation to protest the Israeli assault on the beleaguered strip.

In this way, Peru joined governments of Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela and Bolivia in this diplomatic protest.

On the other hand, Israel later expressed its disappointment with the decision of El Salvador, Peru and Chile to recall their ambassadors for consultations, according to a report by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
