15:33 | Jauja (Junin region), Jul. 3.

The government currently invests S/9.40 million (around US$2.88 million) in Andean city of Jauja, in order to execute various works for the benefit of Peru's tourism sector.

According to Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros, said projects comprise improving Jauja's main square design and access roads, as well as building an interpretation center.

Likewise, the minister underlined his portfolio seeks to promote tourism in Junin region.

Within this framework, he stressed that LATAM Airlines' inaugural Lima-Jauja flight will facilitate transport to and from Peru's central highlands, thus increasing tourist flow to this region.

In this sense, the official congratulated LATAM Airlines for the initiative, as well as Transport and Communications Minister Bruno Giuffra for efforts undertaken to improve the country's airports.

The new service will operate seven days a week on an Airbus 319 aircraft seating 144 passengers. The airline expects to serve 6,666 passengers a month and over 80,000 a year.

LATAM thus becomes the third airline to offer services to the Andean city, along with LC Peru and Peruvian Airlines.

Opening Ceremony

As is known, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski on Monday morning launched LATAM Airlines' service to Jauja city, where he carried out a series of activities.

At the site, the Head of State was joined by First Vice-President Martin Vizcarra, as well as Ministers Marilu Martens (Education), Bruno Giuffra (Production) and Eduardo Ferreyros.
