The Government of Peru has resolved to strengthen the National Office for Dialogue and Sustainability with the direct involvement of State ministers in a bid to prevent, meet and solve social unrest across the country.

President Humala today decided to put this new working scheme into practice, informed Julio Rojas, head of the aforementioned office of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

Ministers of Housing and Agriculture, Milton Von Hesse and Juan Manuel Benites will conduct the dialogue processes in the Amazon and Central Rainforest areas, respectively.

“The president told me about his decision; the office has to be reinforced with the direct involvement of ministers. It encourages the dialogue, creates spaces, but the ministerial intervention is essential because it can address the direct causes of conflicts,” he told a TV program named La Hora N.

Rojas explained the Housing Ministry’s head will chair the round-tables in four Amazon basins; whereas his Agriculture counterpart will assume command of the processes in Pichanaki and discuss issues related to Las Bambas project.

Under this new scheme, the office will serve as a Ministerial Technical Secretariat, promoting the dialogue and creating spaces.

“However, the decision making regarding concrete actions will be made by the ministers,” he underlined.

As a consequence, ministers will head all prevention, dialogue and conflict management actions and, since that moment, ministries will be assembled to examine round-table agreements.
