Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his French counterpart Francois Hollande welcomed the progress being made on the construction of Peru’s first satellite system, set to be completed by July 2016.

Humala paid an inspection visit to Airbus Defence and Space (ADS) facilities located in Toulouse, France.

While in there, President Humala held a videoconference with the French leader, who committed to enhancing the construction process, so that the satellite can be finished by July 2016 and can be launched into space.

Peru’s first sub-metric satellite was acquired from France by means of a government-to-government agreement, and will put our country at the forefront of science and technology development across the region.

On the other hand, France's President reaffirmed French support to the short-stay Schengen visa waiver process for Peruvians wishing to visit the 26 European countries.

Within that framework, Peruvian and French Presidents forecasted both countries may soon upgrade their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, with special emphasis on safety, defense, health and education-related sectors.
