Peru will surpass the goal of luring 4 million foreign tourists in 2017, thus exceeding the number of visitors (3,744,461) who arrived in the Andean country last year, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) projected Monday.
"This year, we'll certainly surpass the target of 4 million
foreign tourists," Mincetur Head Eduardo Ferreyros affirmed following Peru's official presentation as the venue and starting point of the 2018 Dakar Rally.
According to Mincetur, the Inca nation received 2,944,773 foreign visitors between January and September of the current year.
Furthermore, incoming tourism saw increases during each month of 2017 —if compared to 2016— with the exception of March.
On the other hand, Ferreyros reiterated his portfolio expects to reach
7 million foreign tourists by the country's Independence Bicentennial in 2021.
