Foreign Affairs Ministers Ricardo Luna (Peru) and Jean Asselborn (Luxembourg) held a working meeting in Lima with the purpose of discussing the progress and new strategies of their countries' bilateral agenda.

During the gathering, the ministers stressed the importance of strengthening trade ties and investment opportunities binding the two nations.

This way, both countries will take advantage of existing instruments such as the trade agreement with the European Union, the Investment Promotion and Reciprocal Protection Agreement between Peru and the Belgium-Luxembourg Economic Union, as well as the Schengen Visa Waiver Agreement.

Likewise, the dignitaries highlighted the permanent dialogue between both governments on legal cooperation, which will ease the repatriation of important funds —derived from illicit activities— to Peru.

Similarly, Luna thanked the European country's cooperation with the Peru-Ecuador Comprehensive Binational Border Project, which has contributed to improving water, sanitation and electricity services, thus benefiting more than 30,000 people residing in border areas.

For his part, Asselborn reaffirmed his government's support for Peru's aspiration to become a full member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

The event also saw the presence of Peruvian Economy and Finance Minister Claudia Cooper.
