13:11 | Lima, Feb. 14.

Peruvian food exports to 22 countries that make up the Arab League grew 25% to US$33.2 million last year compared to 2016, Lima Chamber of Commerce's (CCL) Foreign Trade Center (CCEX) reported on Wednesday.

According to CCEX Manager Carlos Garcia, the most exported products in the analyzed year were fresh pomegranates (51%), quinoa grains (57%), frozen hake (268%), and frozen prawns (421%).

This showed Peruvian agriculture and fishing products were highly demanded by Arab markets.

Exports of fresh pomegranates stood at US$5.1 million, while those of quinoa grains, frozen hake, and fresh prawns reached US$1.5 million, US$2.1 million, and US$2 million, respectively.

The main export destination was the United Arab Emirates (21%), followed by Saudi Arabia (20%), Morocco (15%), and Algeria (11%).

It must be noted Peruvian food shipments to the Arab League rose around 9% in the last five years and fresh pomegranates saw the highest annual average growth rate of 15%.
