The Executive Branch authorized the trip of Peru’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez to Mexico City for the Pacific Alliance meetings on 16-18 March, according to a supreme resolution published in El Peruano official gazette.

The document also suggests that Sanchez will take part in the launch of the Strategic Partnership between Peru and Mexico.

The decision was taken in light of the fact that Peru will undertake the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the bloc, and one of its priorities is to study and assess the situation and improve relations among Observer States.

On March 3rd, the Pacific Alliance External Relations Group (GRE) submitted the “Analysis of Relations among Pacific Alliance Observer States” —a document outlining a number of recommendations— to the High Level Group (GAN).

Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs, invited Sanchez to participate in a meeting of the Pacific Alliance Foreign Ministers on March 17th in Mexico, intended to assess the progress made by Observer States and the recommendations made by GAN.

Culture Minister Diana Alvarez-Calderon will take over the Foreign Affairs portfolio, while Sanchez is absent.

The document was signed by President Ollanta Humala Tasso, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano Bellido and Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez de Rios.
