Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Maria Sanchez said she is confident the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference - COP 21, held in Pairs, France, will trigger an agreement with positive effects for future generations, environmentally speaking.

“I would say there is not only hope, but a great responsibility to embrace, in Paris, this tool that will undoubtedly impact living conditions of current and future generations,” she was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

Sanchez recalled that the COP20 meeting in Lima last year confirmed the support of all countries to the adoption of a new legally binding global climate agreement, and talks have been conducted in this spirit.

For instance, she said, the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York adopted a new agenda with goals aimed at sustainable development.

“The Paris deal will undoubtedly contribute to strengthening such agenda, taking into consideration that climate change affects the most vulnerable countries and peoples, especially sectors in poverty and extreme poverty,” she added.

She went on to add that COP21 will be a great way to show the world supports solidarity, peace and development, as these multilateral meetings address dialogue, tolerance and search for understanding.
