Peru’s First Lady and FAO Special Ambassador for the International Year of Quinoa, Nadine Heredia, indicated she will request FAO to promote cocoa consumption as it did with quinoa.
"Just like I've pushed the work for quinoa promotion at the global level, I will request FAO to undertake efforts for cocoa [consumption] at the international level because the cocoa is Peruvian and nobody will take that away from us," the First Lady stated.
According to Mrs. Heredia, producers are the ones, who have made possible cocoa’s presence in world’s markets, where it is considered one of the top quality products.
"That's why I am very proud of what you've achieved," she stated.
Likewise, she highlighted the work carried out by the Peruvian women who take care of the plant the same way they do with their children.
The First Lady attended the "8th Regional Festival of Cocoa" in Irazola. She was joined by the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policies Cesar Sotomayor.
