Peruvian Economy and Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne on Wednesday lost a confidence vote at Congress.

A Parliament plenary session resulted in 88 votes against, 2 abstentions and 11 in favor of the cabinet member's continuation in office.

The decision was taken following a debate, during which parties expressed their stance on the matter.

Following the result, Thorne will have to sign his resignation letter and leave the cabinet.

Last week, Thorne attended a Congress session to address a phone conversation he had with Comptroller General Edgar Alarcon weeks ago, which resulted in controversy.
