Peru Fin Min: Economy to increase by 4% in 2015's last quarter

17:07 | Lima, Oct. 06.

Peru's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth would reach approximately 4% in the last quarter of 2015; this will confirm the national economic acceleration despite the unfavorable global context, Peru’s Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) Alonso Segura announced.

"We consider growth may reach close to 4% […],” the government official expressed.

"What matters is the economy recovers and continues accelerating; and this is the only one that will continue expanding in Latin America," he added.

In this sense, Segura said the region will experience a severe contraction this year; -1.5% according to projections by the World Economic Outlook (WEO). It exemplifies the difficulties the primary-good-exporting economies are going through.

"We are experiencing the impact of the deep decline in commodity prices over 65 years. However, the Peruvian economy keeps growing. We must trust the measures being adopted," the Minister underlined.

Private Sector

In order to achieve sustainable growth, the participation of both, the State and the private, is required since Peru is one of the economies expected to remain expanding despite external shocks.
