Peru eyes gold medals at South American Athletics U23 Champs

With the aim of climbing podium after podium, Peru’s twenty-five national delegation is scheduled to take part at this year’s South American Under-23 Championships in Athletics which begins in Uruguay, on Friday, Oct. 3.

The Athletics Peruvian Federation released the list of talented sports- men and women who are set to compete at the games’ sixth edition which includes the hurdler Arequipa-born star, Zulema Arenas, who holds the continent’s 3,000-meter record and who is in the bid to be appointed as Peru's flag bearer.

Oscar Fernandez, the federation’s head, noted that team Peru is made of other prominent competitors, including race walking athlete Kimberly Garcia; 100-meter hurdler track and field athlete Diana Bazalar, and 100-meter race athlete Andy Martinez, among others.

Likewise, representing Peru in a wide range of sports for women at the Uruguay event will be Soledad Torre, Mirian Reyes, Maitte Torres, Alessandra Gamboa, Jovana de la Cruz, Alexa Morey, Kimberly García, Luzmery Rojas, Zaaida Ramos, Deysi Parra and Candy Toche.

Meanwhile, Peru is expected to send nation’s leading male representation which includes Jesús Yana, Walter Nina, José Luis Ostos, Yerson Orellana, José Gutiérrez, Christian Pacheco, William García, Luis Saavedra, Edmundo Díaz, Mozambite Sánchez and José Luis Rojas

Thus, Peruvian athletes and officials have the goal to make a formidable performance while attending the continent’s largest athletic festival which concludes two days later, on October 5th.
