Peru's total exports will amount to US$38.6 billion this year, up 9.6% from 2016, when shipments totaled US$35.2 billion, Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) reported.

"Peruvian exports will increase 9.6% in 2017, compared to 2016, despite the impacts caused by Coastal El Niño phenomenon," Adex head Juan Varilias told the official gazette El Peruano.

He predicted non-traditional exports will reach US$11.4 billion this year, meaning a 6.3% increase compared to 2016.

"Non-traditional exports will achieve strong recovery in the second quarter of this year, taking into account the Coastal El Niño climate crisis is over," he added.

The business leader said crops will be favored and, from now on, will display a recovery trend in favor of non-traditional exports, driven by agriculture.

"Exports growth is directly linked to the rebound of catches of [human] consumption species, which has been registering greater sea product shipments over recent months [...]," Varilias explained.

Likewise, he said textile and garment sales abroad showed another positive trend in the first quarter, painting a good picture for the year.

"Textile and garment exports have reached new markets with new options," he pointed out.
