The Peruvian Society of Registered Alpaca (SPAR) has exported a third shipment of 7.1 tons of high quality alpaca fibre which is worth US$ 125,000 to Italian fabric-manufacturing company Fratelli Piacanza in May 2013.

The export deal was agreed upon by Peruvian trading agency Sierra Exportadora, SPAR and the Italian manufacturing company to eliminate the role of middlemen.

The deal was a step towards creating a direct link between the Peruvian alpaca producers and the global market, Fibre2fashion.com reported.

The organizations along with representatives of Agronomists and Veterinarians without Borders (AVSF) offered technical support to the Peruvian alpaca fibre producers to use advanced shearing methods for high-quality fibre.

With mechanized shearing systems, the producers were able to yield high-quality and clean fibre, which can be used as raw material for manufacturing of fabric and apparel.

Fratelli Piacenza is an Italy-based manufacturer of fine woolen fabrics which supplies fabrics to many world-leading apparel manufacturers.
