Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) Magali Silva noted the trade opportunities that Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) countries — Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan—offer to Peru.
Silva opened the business forum “Eurasian Economic Union, New Business and Cooperation Opportunities for Peru,” within the framework of an official visit paid by EEC Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics Tatyana Valovaya, along with a business delegation.
“Peru and the Eurasian Economic Union have confirmed their intention to intensify trade relations to exploit the potential that this market offers to our agroindustry, clothing, and fishing products,” the Peruvian government official stated.
Mincetur’s head pointed that 99% of Peruvian exports to EEU countries are directed to the Russian Federation, and that export products with great market potential include grapes, quinoa and other Andean grains, pomegranates, and fishing products.
She went on to add that exports to the Russian market amounted to US$86 million in 2015.
“But the most important thing is that 60% of these shipments were non-traditional, precisely the ones that provide the most value added. Peruvian exports to Russia have grown 237.9% in the past ten years (2006-2015), and exports in the first two months of the year increased by 20.9% compared with the same period in 2015,” she continued.
Efforts should be made to introduce our products to other EEU countries, she continued, and to that end, the country has developed a comprehensive portfolio of value added products.
