Peru was elected one of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Executive Committee's members for the 2017-2020 period, the Andean nation's Foreign Affairs Ministry reported.

Election took place on the occasion of the 29th Pan American Sanitary Conference in D.C.

Established in 1902, PAHO is the world's oldest multinational public health organization composed of the 35 States of the Americas.

Likewise, its Executive Committee is a governing body made up of nine countries elected for overlapping periods of three years.

It must be noted Canada and Belize were also chosen to take part in said committee.

From its new position, the Inca nation will join forces with other regional countries to promote inclusion and stimulate discussion on issues of common concerns.

Thus, Peru bolsters its commitment to the Sustainable Health Agenda for the Americas 2018-2030, as well as reinforces its presence in the main international forums.
