Peruvian President Ollanta Humala today said Peru and Ecuador are willing to continue working on peace and aim to strengthen the friendship between their peoples that share a common historical background and the same development needs.

After arriving at the airport in the Ecuadorian town of Arenillas and being received by his counterpart Rafael Correa, Mr. Humala said peace can not only be embodied in an agreement, but must be built through sustained effort and goodwill.

"Ecuador is a country that needs and yearns for peace, just like Peru (...) I feel like home. We have been working on a development agenda that embraces social inclusion issues," he noted.

The head of the Peruvian state said this binational cabinet meeting between Peru and Ecuador will be tackling the issues left over from the previous meeting held last year in the Peruvian region of Piura.

According to the Peruvian leader, the two nations need to work closely to resolve outstanding issues to the benefit of border towns, where bilateral trade, infrastructure, security, electricity and industry issues are essential.
