Peru's national production grew 3.18% in September this year, recording 98 straight months of economic expansion driven by mining, hydrocarbon and construction sectors, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed Wednesday.

The statistics office reported the economy expanded 2.38% in January-September this year and 2.55% over the past 12 months (October 2016-September 2017).

It must be noted the national GDP went up in line with forecasts by economic analysts who projected Peru was going to increase 3.20% in September 2017.

According to INEI, the deseasonalized index of September's national production saw a 0.63% rise from the previous month.

Factors

This result was supported by the favorable evolution of external demand, as well as by greater volume exported (17.66%) of both traditional (21.91%) and non-traditional (5.04%) products.

"Higher exports of fish oil, copper, iron, gold, zinc, agricultural products, textiles, chemicals and metallurgy were registered, too," it continued.

The recovery in domestic demand —evidenced in higher imports of non-durable consumer goods (14.59%), retail sales (1.95%) and consumer loans (1.38%)— contributed as well.
