Peru’s firms engaged in the food sector established more than 150 new valuable business contacts from around the world at this year’s edition of "World Food Moscow", the Peruvian Association of Producers and Agro Exporters Guilds (AGAP) said Friday.

Ana María Deustua, AGAP's Executive Director, noted producers are prepared to consolidate Peruvian fresh grape exports in the Russian market as shipments to the Eurasian country hit a record high of US$ 44 million on average in 2013.

Likewise, she pointed out that fresh pomegranates and citrus products' shipments are expected to continue increasing as, thus far in 2014, they reported an increase of 46 percent and 19 percent, respectively, compared with the year-earlier period.

In addition, AGAP’s head said that Russia's demand for Peruvian fresh fruits and vegetables has significantly increased after Moscow stopped imports of most food from the West in retaliation for US and EU sanctions over Ukraine.

Peru's participation at the fair, held in Moscow from September 15-18, was aimed at further promoting fresh fruit and vegetables in the Russian market. The Peruvian delegation included eleven companies and three export-oriented associations.
