Around 600,000 Peruvian nationals will travel inland on Labor Day's long weekend break (April 29-May 1), generating US$60 million in economic activity, National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) head Fredy Gamarra estimated on Friday.
He told El Peruano official gazette each family will spend between S/1,000 (about US$307) and S/1,200 (about US$369) on its three-day journey.
"This calculation includes accommodation, food, transportation, and the average cost of recreational activities. Some persons will devote less money to their trips, since their relatives live inland, which allows them to save money on accommodation and even food," he said.
Destinations
The most sought-after spots for this weekend will be on the outskirts of the capital city, Lima, taking into account this break comprises three non-business days instead of four, compared to Holy Week.
"We refer to Chincha, Pisco, Paracas and Ica in the South; Huaral, Huarmey and Huacho in the North; as well as Junin and Huanuco in the center," he explained.
Most people will drive their own cars, since bus rides are not a suitable option this time, due to concerns about rain.
