As legacy, the current administration is leaving a tourist plan valid for the upcoming years that features a diversified offer, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva announced.

Tourism

"We have developed 75 new tourist products. Tourist infrastructure expansion has left two major projects, such as the Kuelap cable-car system and the Yarinacocha boardwalk," Silva told El Peruano official gazette.

According to Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) estimates, tourism has become the first non-traditional sector bringing foreign currency flows into the country.

Between January and November 2015, a total of 3,157,997 tourist arrivals were registered in Peru, leading to a 7.8% increase compared to the same period in 2014.

"We are working on new concepts, as is the case of international convention tourism [...]," the official indicated.

Convention

"[…] thanks to the construction of Latin America's most modern convention center, Peru is considered a major international-event destination at regional level," she stressed.

Last year the 27 de Enero Convention Center was inaugurated in Lima. It hosted the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.

Due to the country's unlimited natural, historic and cultural resources, tourism is consolidating as channel to fight poverty and to socially include more Peruvians.

A plan has consolidated to attract a greater flow of tourists. Thus, better job opportunities are offered to citizens, she noted.

"These [projects] are executed through thousands and thousands of small businesses, which depend on tourist guides, transport companies, security, logistics, hotels, restaurants and artisans," Silva affirmed.

It must be noted last Friday Peru presented its successful tourist protection policy at the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) High-Level Meeting on Tourism and Security held in Madrid.
