Peruvian Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi will visit France from Nov 30 to Dec 2 to monitor the progress of production of the satellite acquired by Peru, and to strengthen bilateral ties in his sector.

The government official’s trip was approved by the Executive Branch through Supreme Resolution No 032-2015-PCM, published today in the official gazette El Peruano.

He will first stop in Paris before heading to Toulouse, where Airbus headquarters are located. Airbus is in charge of the construction and effectiveness of the first-of-its-kind satellite to be operated by Peru, according to a deal signed with France in April, 2014.

Mr. Valakivi will reach France on a commercial flight and will be back to Peru on a Peruvian Air Force aircraft together with President Ollanta Humala, who will be attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris.

The document states the Defense portfolio is responsible for promoting bilateral, regional, hemispheric and multilateral policies, as well as international treaties on Security and Defense in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Interior Minister Jose Luis Perez Guadalupe will take over the Defense office, while Valakivi is absent.

The resolution was inked by Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano and Defense Minister Jakke Valakivi.
