Peru's soccer team did not go out of the way and got a 2-1 victory against Bolivia, which allows it to remain in competition towards grabbing a place at 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

First half

In the first 10 minutes of Thursday night's match, the national squad came out with an overwhelming script.

Christian Cueva, Jefferson Farfan and Andre Carrillo went to the attack and had several occasions to score. Nonetheless, goalkeeper Carlos Lampe somehow became the Bolivian savior as he cleared the dangerous attacks.

Although Peruvians took possession of the ball, the Bolivians were better positioned in the field at Lima's Monumental Stadium, which hosted 56,000 fans.

The first half ended with zero goals.

Second half

Once the second half started, the Bolivian players wanted to impose their game, yet unsuccessfully.

In the 55th minute, the red-white rocked fans out, once Peru's Edison Flores found a ball outside the area, which he amazingly slid into the net, beating goalkeeper Lampe.

Fans had not stopped celebrating. However —4 minutes later— Sao Paulo star Christian Cueva received a pass and shot from outside the box, leading to the second goal of the night.

On the other hand, Bolivia's Gilbert Alvarez managed to score the only goal for the guest team (72nd minute).

In the end, locals claimed the victory. Peru now ranks 6th after having seen 6 victories, 6 losses and 3 draws at the Qualifiers.

This triumph will not help if Peru does not defeat home-team Ecuador at Atahualpa Stadium in Quito next Tuesday.
