Peru committed to promoting sustainable development model, says Foreign Min at ECLAC

Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Maria Sanchez participated in the closing ceremony of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) 36th session held in Mexico City on Friday.

At the event, the government official pointed out Peru supports the promotion of a sustainable development and social inclusion model.

"Peru follows guiding principles, such promoting a development model, based on social inclusion, economic growth and human rights […]," the Foreign Affairs Minister said.

The diplomat participated in the "Dialogue of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and high-level authorities" section presided over by hosting country's Foreign Affairs Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu.

The meeting was also attended by ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Barcena, among counterparts from Colombia, Panama and other nations.

"Representatives decided to establish the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development as a regional mechanism to follow-up and review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) its targets, means of implementation, and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on financing for development," ECLAC affirmed.

Dialogue was focused on the need to continue with efforts aimed at eliminating poverty, protecting the environment, both considered relevant elements for achieving sustainable development goals.

Likewise, officials suggested not to delay structural reforms in the region, so the economy will pick up.

On behalf of Peru, Mrs. Sanchez handed over the ECLAC Presidency to Mexico following a two-year term.
