On Saturday, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala presented his country's commitment to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 30% for 2030.

This national contribution was presented to the UNFCCC Executive-Secretary Christiana Figueres along with Environment Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, who holds the COP20 Presidency and leads the negotiations to reach a climate agreement at COP21 to be held in Paris.

The said pledge is aimed at adapting and mitigating the climate change impacts on mainly six sectors: industry, energy, forestry, agriculture, transport and waste management.

Likewise, it will comply with ethical responsibilities at national and international level, as well as to maintain a highly competitive economy through specific actions and activities.

Social and environmental benefits of productive sectors will be enhanced by the sustainable use of natural resources as well.

Thus, Peru confirms its commitment by ensuring a sustainable development, a low-carbon economy and a society resilient to climate change effects in the future.
