Presidents Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (Peru) and Juan Manuel Santos (Colombia) signed a declaration concerning situations in Chile and Mexico —the other two member countries of the Pacific Alliance.

The two presidents expressed solidarity regarding the wildfires in Chile, and wished the situation will get under control.

The document also reaffirms Peruvian and Colombian support to Mexico, which also agrees on the need to seek spaces for dialogue and negotiation to promote free trade.

“We have proposed a virtual summit with Pacific Alliance member countries for the following days, in order to reflect on the current challenges,” reads the declaration.

Both Kuczynski and Santos noted the importance of being part of the Pacific Alliance, considering the current international landscape.

“We must stand in solidarity with our ideals and with world trade, which has been so good for our countries for the past 30 years,” Mr. Kuczynski stated.

The two South American leaders closed the 3rd Peru-Colombia Binational Cabinet and Presidential Meeting with the signing of the Arequipa Declaration.

Said document reiterates the high level of bilateral relations, based on common values, mainly on rule of law, democracy and fundamental freedoms defense and promotion, as well as a shared view of world development and governance.
