Chile and Peru have no difficulty to keep moving forward and are able to address challenges together in areas such as fishing and mining, after resolving the discrepancy that resulted in legal battles between the two countries at the Hague-based International Court of Justice, said Chile's former Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno.

He underlined that the difference arbitrated at the Hague was the last difficulty needed to be addressed to further cement bilateral ties.

Mr. Moreno also noted that the fact the verdict was executed in less than three months shows both nations are able to do many things and tackle difficult issues together.

“This is something Chileans and Peruvians have to put off to jointly address other challenges regarding development and employment. I think we can do much more together,” he told Andina news agency.

The positive and healthy spirit perceived in the last year has been voiced not only by Chilean authorities, but also by the civil society and population itself, as is the case of those living in the Tacna-Arica border region, where the relationship –he said– is closer.

In addition, Moreno says Peru-Chile relations are at their best moment in terms of economic and commercial factors. “The dispute has been left behind and the future of these two countries is fully present.”
