The two alleged Shining Path terrorists Alexander Alarcon (Comrade Renan) and Dionisio Ramos (a.k.a. Yuri), captured in the VRAEM area on Sunday, were brought to Lima.

According to the Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Vega, the capture of terrorists led to dismantling a Shining Path remnants column.

"This, the Shining Path column which was based South of Cusco region's Convencion area, has been completely dismantled; the energy and tourism axes are in safe hands [now],” he told while addressing the press at the 'Grupo Aereo Nr. 8' Air Force Base located in El Callao district.

Vega reminded both persons were found possessing weapons and explosives, which had been stolen from Air Forces personnel and police stations after carrying out attacks against them.

Likewise, he indicated that both 'Yuri' and 'Renan' were successors of deceased terrorists: Martin Quispe Palomino ‘Comrade Gabriel’ and Orlando Borda Casafranca ‘Comrade Alipio’, both knocked down in 2013.

Upon arrival in the city, the delinquents were headed to Peru’s National Counterterrorism Unit (DIRCOTE) facilities for corresponding investigations.

Vega assured the Armed Forces' efforts will not dwindle, in order to prevent Shining Path from gaining influence in the Kimbiri district.

“We are constantly on guard. Our efforts and abilities are focused on that. We, the Armed Forces, National Police and Public Ministry are present, and the results are here,” he added.
