Peru, Canada sign agreement to acquire five Seasprite helicopters

The governments of Peru and Canada have recently signed an accord that will allow the Andean nation to acquire up to five Seasprite multipurpose helicopters for the Peruvian Navy.

“These helicopters are intended to protect the so called Mar de Grau, the body of water in the Pacific Ocean under the control of the South American country of Peru,” the Defense Minister announced.

He continued, “the acquisition was made as part of a state program aimed at strengthening the operational capacities of the Navy.” 

In addition, these naval helicopters will provide more functions to fulfill maritime surveillance, search, rescue and security tasks, in accordance with international conventions of the International Maritime Organization ratified by Peru.

The signing ceremony brought together Peru’s Defense Minister, Pedro Cateriano; Deputy Minister for Defense Resources,  Jakke Valakivi; and the Commander-in-Chief of the Peruvian Navy, Adm. Carlos Tejada for the Peruvian side.

On the other hand, Canada was represented by its ambassador in Peru, Patricia Fortier; the Canadian Commercial Corporation’s Vice President, Pierre Alarie; and the Vice President at General Dynamics Air and Space, Bryan Faba.
