Peru’s Production Minister Bruno Giuffra affirmed the country has been promoting a strong paperwork simplification policy to increase productivity among enterprises, reducing red tape and bureaucratic formalities.

This way, his administration aims to make things easier for entrepreneurs and facilitate projects’ development, he said in a speech at the International Conference and Ministerial Meeting on “Productivity and Inclusive Growth,” held in Santiago, Chile, on December 5-6.

In this sense, the simplification plan implemented has already started to yield results. “We want all sectors to have a clean slate, so that projects with clear, evident comparative advantages stand out,” he explained.

Giuffra also highlighted the strong bet on technology as bridging mechanism to draw informal businesses towards economic formalization. “This will also have a cross-sector impact on small enterprises’ productivity and, as a result, in the country,” he said.

The Minister took part in the Ministerial Panel on Productivity Growth in Latin America, where he exchanged views and analyzed the challenges of increasing productivity in the region with Argentinian counterpart Francisco Cabrera and Chilean Economy, Development and Tourism Minister Luis Felipe Cespedes.

The activity was organized by the Chilean government, along with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

On the other hand, SMEs and Industry Deputy-Minister Juan Carlos Mathews participated in the presentation of Government at a Glance: Latin America and the Caribbean 2017, a joint report by OECD and IDB.

The official pointed out the work serves as a benchmark for good practices, as well as an indicator on the impact of public management.

Not only is productivity one of the main factors for high, sustained growth, but also a key element to generate social inclusion and improve life quality among citizens.

Thus, discussing its challenges and the role of public policies has taken a priority place in the international agenda.
