Peru: APEC to prioritize non-tariff barrier elimination, trade facilitation

00:01 | Ha Noi (Viet Nam), May. 23.

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros on Monday highlighted Peru welcomes APEC's intention to continue working on the elimination of trade barriers and the facilitation of international trade.

The Foreign Trade head noted said areas are key to the promotion of international trade, and highlighted APEC economies' commitment in this sense.

"APEC economies show a clear commitment to eliminating non-tariff barriers and facilitating trade," Ferreyros expressed.

"And, above all, to doing the necessary work to follow the action plan of the Lima Declaration on Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific [FTAAP] adopted at the 2016 APEC Summit."

In this respect, the government official congratulated Viet Nam on building on the priorities set in Peru last year.

"Multiannual priorities will allow the [APEC] Forum to have more concrete and relevant results," he pointed out.

Peruvian initiatives

On the other hand, Ferreyros underscored Peruvian initiatives that have been embraced by fellow APEC economies.

"Peru has been leading the preparation of a methodology compendium for the internationalization of small- and medium-sized enterprises [SMEs]," he informed.

Similarly, he stressed the Andean country's leadership in the development of the study on Single Window Systems' International Interoperability.

Said study will foster discussions to establish pilot document-exchange projects among the bloc's economies.

Remarks were made after participating in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum's Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting, held in Ha Noi (Viet Nam) on May 20-21.
